Say Yes!
If you’re feeling bored, uninspired, or otherwise in a personal or professional rut, doing something spontaneous may not be the most obvious solution. However, a fun or unusual activity may be just what you need to change your attitude, disposition, and otherwise lift your spirits.
I’ve long believed that “no” is intellectually lazy; everyone can say no. It’s how we can get there, do that, try it in a new way, or a new uncharted path that’s always been exciting to me. A good way to practice this new mindset is to start saying “yes” to things that come across your radar.
If you’re invited to a new post-pandemic company or industry gathering that you wouldn’t normally attend, say “yes,” and make yourself go. If you get an email inviting you to an online or better yet, an in-person first time gathering across town or the country, sign up and go!
If you walk past a poster advertising a dance or photography class you’ve always wanted to try, get online right there on your phone and sign up. A new person reaches out and wants to meet for coffee – we all know you’re busy, yet say “yes!”
I’m not advocating that you abandon your values, strategic priorities, or the profile of business relationships most relevant to your world. The parent in me also wants to remind you that all good things in moderation.
Yet by saying “yes,” to possibilities that are placed before you, you’ll open your world to new people, places, and experiences. This will probably entail stepping out of your comfort zone just a tad, but the benefits include more spontaneity, excitement and adventure.
Trying saying “yes,” to life for an hour, a day, or a month and see what happens!
